What is MBBS?

Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is a medical course for students that aspire to become a doctor or a surgeon. It is the most recognized medical degree of doctors and also the most important one. Students who have studied  Biology as a subject in his or her 11th and 12th standard can opt for MBBS. Aspirants can get admission in private and government colleges for their MBBS or other medical courses through NEET (national eligibility entrance test). Institutions offering medical courses and medical degrees are referred to as medical colleges. Other courses that medical aspirants can opt for are, Bachelor of Science ( B.Sc.), Bachelor of Homopathic/Ayurvedic/Unani Medicine Surgery ( BAMS / BHMS / BUMS), Bachelor of Dental Surgery ( BDS), Bachelor of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry ( B.VSc & AH), Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm).

 

What is Medical Council of India ( MCI)?

The MCI is a government body or organization that forms and regulates the rules and guidelines for medical education in India.The council grants registrations and monitors medical practices in India. National Medical Commission ( NMC ) has replaced the current medical authority MCI in December 2017 for more transparency.

 

What is the Duration of MBBS?

5.5 years ( 4.5 years academic education + 1-year compulsory internship). The internship is compulsory for every student and is part of their degree. Also, the first phase of MBBS consists of 2 semesters in the span of 1 year. Subsequently, the second phase consists of 3 semesters of 1.5 years. whereas the third phase is 2 years which is followed by a year of compulsory internship.

The annual fees of a government college is around 44,600/-

Which makes the total fees of 5 and a half years equal to around 2,23,000/-

Whereas the fees in private colleges is comparatively costlier than government colleges at around 70,00,000/-  to 80,00,000/-

Students who are not able to get admission in government colleges find studying MBBS in private colleges to be very expensive.
